Our Qualifications

William T. Morrissey is President of Sound Financial Planning, Inc., and a Registered Investment Advisor with the Washington State Securities Division. He completed both his education for the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1984 and the Investment Strategies and Portfolio Managers Advanced Studies program in 1990 from the College for Financial Planning. Mr. Morrissey is a CFP licensee with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards and is in the public practice of personal financial planning as a CFP Practitioner.

Prior to opening Sound Financial Planning in 1982, Mr. Morrissey was in the real estate business for nine years in the Seattle area. He was involved in residential and commercial brokerage, owned and managed a substantial real estate investment portfolio, and was president of two real estate development companies. He also owned and operated a major resort in the San Juan Islands.

Mr. Morrissey is a founding member of the Nazrudin project, a loose affiliation of financial planners and other professionals devoted to working with their clients in a holistic and comprehensive manner.  Mr. Morrissey is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors; the nation's leading organization of Fee-Only financial planners. He served on the National Board as Pacific Regional Director for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners from 1991 to 1993, was the 1989-90 Chairman of the Puget Sound Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners, and was 1990-91 President of the Northwest Washington Estate Planning Council. He has been published in Money, Financial Planning Magazine, Skagit Valley Herald, The Journal, Bellingham Herald, and Business Pulse. Financial planning programs have been conducted for KOMO, KBRC, and KGMI Radio, KING Radio's Money Talks, KING TV's Top Story, KVOS TV's Digest, KCTS TV's Serious Money, and KIRO TV's Noon News. Mr. Morrissey also hosted the "Washington Business News Forum" for KEZX Radio in Seattle. He is a contributing author to two nationally-acclaimed books entitled "Financial Planning Can Make You Rich", and "About Your Future...Financial Planning Will Make the Difference".  Mr. Morrissey is listed in "Who's Who in Finance and Industry", "Who's Who of Emerging Leaders of America", and "Who's Who in the West." He currently serves on the planned giving committee for the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, is  past President and current Board Member of United Way of San Juan County, and a current member and past President of Friday Harbor Kiwanis.
